Longar delivers in OU's 104-45 rout of Florida A&M

Tsunamis and Death-Toll Pornography

Another impact that the modern media has, numbing our response to disaster:

"As the number of casualties following the tsunamis that struck south-east Asia and parts of east Africa reaches the 60,000 mark, I find myself falling prey to one of the most unpleasant side-effects of 24-hour television and web news coverage: an addiction to death-toll pornography. Like a junkie who finds himself locked inside of a drug store, with uninterrupted access to CNN, the BBC and the web I have an inexhaustible supply of material to feed my self-destructive habit."

"As the numbers continue to grow, however, my humanity and compassion seem to diminish. Initial horror upon hearing the news has morphed into an urge to hear more updates and to see more video footage of massive waves washing away cars, hotels, boats, and, in case we forget, people. As the numbers rocket upward, I play a macabre guessing game. How high will the death count go? 100,000? 200,000? Could it be a quarter of a million? The numbers are so huge, and my experience with death on this scale (or any scale, for that matter) so minuscule, that I simply cannot comprehend what is going on, Statistics are the only thing I can lean on."

OU Fans Get Some More Good News

Texas, Brown agree to new 10-year contract

OU Fans breath a sigh of relief as Mack Brown's contact is extended through 2014.

"It's good to know that our winning streak is guaranteed to continue," said Chad Hensley, a long time OU fan, "I was afraid they might hire someone new and we would lose our huge psychological advantage."

Former Baltimore and Texas manager Johnny Oates dies at 58

Hats off to a class act and a man who was deeply devoted to God and to his family.

"Johnny Oates, who managed the Texas Rangers to their first three postseason appearances, died early Friday. He was 58."

"Oates and his wife began each morning studying the Bible in the sunroom of their home on Lake Chesdin, about 30 miles from Richmond, and were active in their church. Oates also attended local baseball games periodically, but increasingly needed help to get there after the brain surgery slowly caused the left side of his body to become lame."

``I don't miss baseball one single bit. I enjoy talking about it, but I know I can't do it anymore. I like to watch it on TV,'' he said in an interview with The Associated Press in March 2003. ``I miss the people. I don't miss the stress that went with it, all the decision-making. But now I enjoy being here. I enjoy being lazy.''

The Speeding Outhouse - Popular Science

No Punchline Necessary

"Some folks like to take their time on the can. Not Paul Stender. When the 43-year-old former pit mechanic feels the need for speed, he straps himself into his jet-engine-equipped toilet and roars off, trailing flame."

Notre Dame aide shaves head to protest Willingham's firing

Now that is a conviction. Let's hope ND never wins another one.

"The assistant to Notre Dame's president shaved her head to protest Tyrone Willingham's firing as football coach, saying she will remain bald until the Irish win a national championship.

"Because when we do, that will be justification for some people of why we fired Tyrone Willingham,'' Chandra Johnson said. "Not for me, but for some people.''

Johnson, 50, assistant to the Rev. Edward A. Malloy, Notre Dame's president, said she shaved her head last Saturday. Johnson, the school's highest-profile black administrator, told the South Bend Tribune she was shocked at the firing of Willingham -- the first black head coach in any sport at Notre Dame. "
